Nestled against the majestic Vaca Mountains in the heart of Winters, California. Quietly tucked into the Winters Highland AVA and located in rural Yolo County, Turkovich Family Wines is creating a legacy of award winning wines.
The Land
Selected tree generations ago, the land that today makes up the farm and winery was selected because of the combination of soil, water and climate. Prunes were the first crop grown on the family farm over 75 years ago. Today, prunes are still grown along side wine grapes.
Our 23-acre estate vineyard sits at the perfect intersection of geography and climate that makes Winters one of California's most exciting emerging wine regions the Winters Highlands AVA. The vineyard is blessed with gravelly-clay-loam soils that provide excellent drainage while retaining just enough moisture to nurture our vines through California's long, dry summers.
What makes our terroir truly special is the unique microclimate created by our location. Warm, sun-drenched days provide the heat necessary for optimal fruit ripening, while cool evening breezes flowing from nearby Lake Berryessa create dramatic temperature swings that preserve natural acidity and develop complex flavor compounds.
